It is easily this year’s best MMA card so far on Saturday night by Las Vegas as a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and rival Anthony Smith highlights UFC 235.
The five-fight main card is expected to begin at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. Here’s a look at those spells — plus the last prelim — and their Sports Interaction UFC chances.
Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith
Records: Jones (23-1), Smith (31-13)
Division: Light heavyweight
UFC Odds: Smith +500, Jones -850 Prediction: Jones by choice Mixed martial arts dropped one of its greats recently to retirement in Georges St-Pierre the best MMA fighter. GSP is on the brief list of the finest of all-time irrespective of division. The very best? An individual can make an argument for the 31-year-old Jones. In the Octagon, he has no peer. He just seems to derail his career whether due to drug tests that are failing or legal issues. Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history, and he never lost it. Jones was suspended and stripped and But a drug test would come out after Jones conquer on Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 from this light heavyweight belt.
It was earned by jones back with a third-round knockout of Alexander Gustafsson in December, but that arrived with the asterisk. Jones tested positive for trace amounts of a steroid and Nevada’s state would not give him a licence to fight. So the entire card, at a movement that was really unprecedented, was shifted to Los Angeles. The 30-year-old Smith is a former middleweight who has fought 205 pounds for less than a year. He is on an impressive three-fight winning streak over Mauricio Rua Volkan Oezdemir and Rashad Evans. There is some talk Jones might face Cormier, the heavyweight champ, using a win although Jones (unofficially) has beaten him twice already.
